Teaching Assistant – Reception

Speldhurst Church of England Primary School is looking to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant who has the ability to inspire, motivate and support our wonderful reception pupils.

Speldhurst is an Outstanding school and this is a great opportunity to join our happy and motivated team. The school has a strong Christian ethos and is at the heart of the Speldhurst community.

We are looking for classroom assistant who has a passion for working with younger children and can hit the ground running. The post is part-time, 3 days per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Although experience in an Early Years setting would be an advantage, consideration will also be given to candidates with relevant skills. The post is term-time only, 19.5 hours per week (8.30am to 3.30pm) with 30 minutes for lunch.  If you are an empathetic and hardworking individual with a passion for helping children, this would be the perfect role for you. Good communication skills and an ability to relate to children are vital.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to relate exceptionally well to both children and adults, be a well organised practitioner who is able to use their own initiative and also be able to work as part of a team. they will be flexible, completely reliable and always enthusiastic and positive.

Having a working knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage would be an advantage. 

Necessary Experience:

  • Good standard of education with strong Literacy and Numeracy skills 
  • Strong ICT skills
  • Evidence of excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Desirable Experience:  

  • Previous experience as Teaching Assistant or as a Key Worker in a nursery
  • An understanding of phonics
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn about the learning environment in the Early Years
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Childcare experience with could be paid or voluntary

Qualifications:

Any of the following would be welcomed:

Teaching Assistant Course - NCFE or CACHE Accredited

Degree in Early Childhood Studies/Education

Teaching Qualification

Childcare experience and a qualification such as an NVQ or BTEC

GCSE Maths and English

Experience as a KS1 Teaching Assistant

Visits to the school are encouraged
