Horsted School is a 'good' school that is ‘a reflective, up-beat and outward-looking community’ (Ofsted 2018).

Horsted School is looking to appoint a part time caretaker (20 hours over 2 days from 7am – 6pm term time and holidays) to join our highly motivated team. We want our children to have an amazing school environment – inside and out – and this is something you need to help us achieve!

The successful candidate will take pride in ensuring the school is clean, tidy and a safe environment for our children and staff. They will need to be competent at DIY tasks and be able to work both on their own initiative and under the guidance of others.

Duties to include

    • Alarming/unlocking/locking the school
    • Maintaining our school site both internally and externally.
    • Cleaning of designated areas/overseeing the work of the contract cleaners
    • Porterage services
    • Liaising with contractors
    • Working alongside the site manager to undertake health & safety inspections and keeping accurate health & safety records
    • Painting and decorating
    • To oversee the efficient working of heating plant and lighting
    • Any other task that the senior leadership team deems appropriate.

We have a minibus, and although not essential, it would be very useful to have category D1 on your licence as well as some experience of driving minibuses.

Salary: D2 £21,189 – £24,054 pay scale (pro rata)

Ideally you will have relevant experience as a Caretaker, however full training will be provided.  You will need to be able to develop good working relationships with staff at all levels. You would need to be physically fit and be able to work at heights.

You must be flexible and adaptable to the needs of the job and show capacity for hard work to meet competing deadlines accurately and with attention to detail.
