Advert

Turner Schools is offering an exciting, unique and rewarding opportunity for a dedicated teacher to further develop their skills and lead on the Nest Provision based at Turner Free School.

The Nest provision will provide a bespoke curriculum for a small group between 6-10 new year 7 pupils with EHC plans who are working predominantly at key stage 1 levels for English and mathematics.

The lead teacher will work closely with our Director of SEND and curriculum leads to adapt, refine and deliver a secondary curriculum that will engage and inspire the pupils, developing their reading, writing and mathematics whilst ensuring they have opportunities to participate in all curriculum areas.

We are looking to attract a colleague with experience, knowledge and understanding of either key stage 1 & 2 or delivering a core subject at key stage 3. The successful applicant will have a proven track record of improving outcomes for children working below age expectations and a particular strength in supporting pupils with SEND.

The role will require experience of working with children with a range of special educational needs and disabilities and a desire to further develop this.

Experience of delivering different interventions such as phonics and reading intervention is desirable but not essential.

Our schools are proud of their innovation in research-informed teaching, leadership development and ongoing curricular improvement and our partnerships with organisations such as Leadership Matters and Ambition Institute mean we can offer extensive, bespoke development opportunities which we encourage all of our teachers to embrace.

As lead teacher of the Nest, your role will require you to be a strong practitioner who is capable of inspiring pupils and an enthusiasm for research-informed education.

For candidates who would like to discuss this role before application or would like to organise a visit to the school to experience our culture and ethos, please contact lisa.hopper@turnerschools.com

Information about the school

The Turner Free School is an academically ambitious and inclusive school for 11-18 year old pupils in the Cheriton area of Folkestone. In other words, it is a grammar-style school for everyone. As a smaller than average secondary school, all pupils are known and educated as individuals. The school has a knowledge-led curriculum, organised along the principles established by Professors Michael Young of the IOE and E.D. Hirsch of the University of Virginia, to ensure all pupils receive the knowledge they need to thrive in the modern world. In addition, to give pupils a leading edge for further education and employment, modern foreign languages are emphasised, with the aspiration that all pupils will achieve a working standard by the time that they graduate from the school.

As a free school the Turner Free School is a new Academy school; directly funded by central government and independent of Local Authority control. Like other free schools, the Turner Free School has a responsibility to expand the educational offer locally, to promote higher standards inclusively, to address local social issues and to ensure excellent value for the public purse.

The Turner Free School is part of Turner Schools, a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT) on the beautiful Kent coast. The Turner Schools family includes six schools in Folkestone:-

• Dover Christ Church Academy

• Folkestone Primary

• Folkestone Academy

• Morehall Primary

• Martello Primary

• Turner Free School

We provide education through pre-school, primary, secondary and on to sixth form. Each academy is individual and responds to the needs of its local community to provide the best possible opportunity for its young people. We promote high academic standards, while ensuring crucial opportunities for personal and emotional development.
