Parkwood Hall Co-operative Academy is a specialist day and residential school for children and young people aged 8-19 who have moderate to severe learning difficulties and autism. Many of our pupils have additional needs including ADHD, Downs Syndrome and language difficulties. Referrals come from local authorities across London, Kent and the South East.

We are committed to providing a learning environment and learning pathway that enables all our pupils to achieve the best they can and help prepare them for adult life so they can live as independent a life as possible. We have a highly skilled team of professionals including teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, a school nurse and residential staff. We are fortunate in having an amazing site where our children can access seventy-eight acres of green space and woodlands. We have two Forest Schools as well as purpose-built playground areas and sports areas. 

We are laying the foundations of great practice. The curriculum has undergone radical change and is in a strong place.  We now need to take this to the next phase.  We need to maintain quality but also expand the offer and maximise the use of our extensive site. Developing the student experience and creating great learning in the classroom will be a key focus for the role.  You will look to drive excellence and work with the pastoral team to make sure that the support is in place to ensure that each and every child and young person is ready to learn and can access the extensive curriculum. You will work with an enthusiastic and energetic team of leaders and staff, who are highly committed to “a quality life for all.” 

You will have a successful track record of teaching and working as a middle leader in a comparable environment and have experience of leading change and improvement. You will have experience of initiating and implementing improvements in teaching and learning. Previous experience of Positive Behaviour Support would be an advantage but is not essential.  Of most importance is a strong belief in the approach and a desire to work towards our vision.  Your personal qualities and ability to establish relationships with the broadest range of individuals will be key.   All our staff must be kind; none more so than in this role.

We have a Forest School on site as well as purpose-built playground areas and sports areas. Our music and performing arts form an important part of our offer: we have a steel band as well as a Makaton Choir. We are committed to providing a learning environment and learning pathway that enables all our pupils to achieve the best they can and help prepare them for adult life so they can live as independent a life as possible. We have created our own bespoke curriculum which is differentiated to each pupil’s individual learning needs. We aim to make our curriculum engaging, relevant and exciting. The school is zoned in areas to accommodate Learning Pathway One which provides a pre-formal curriculum and Learning Pathway Two which provides a formal curriculum environment. The school also has a sixth form zone for post 16 students where the curriculum is about preparing for adult life with pupils focusing on core skills and independent living skills as well as work related learning. We have a highly skilled team of professionals including teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and school nurse. Our team work together positively to enable the absolute best outcomes for our pupils, who always remain at the heart of all we do.
