Advert

We are a large primary school on a substantial site with multiple buildings and outdoor areas and require an experienced, enthusiastic and reliable part-time Caretaker to work under the direction of our Facilities Manager to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for children and staff. The work of the premises team is busy and varied and our school caretakers are supported by an assistant caretaker and a large cleaning team.

The role will involve all aspects of caretaking with some duties being physical in nature and including outside working. You should therefore be comfortable lifting furniture, equipment and delivered goods to statutory limits. The postholder will also be responsible for general maintenance and repairs including plumbing, electrical and carpentry tasks so an aptitude for manual DIY-related work would be advantageous.

The role is for 25 hours per week, 52 weeks per year with an annual leave allowance of a minimum of 26 days (dependent on continuous service). The working hours are 6.15am to 11.15am, Monday to Friday. The pay scale is set at Kent Range 4 (£19,389 for a full-time post) with an actual salary of approximately £13,100 per annum for this role.

A formal 30 minute interview will take place with a Head of School and the Facilities Manager followed by a 30 minute practical task.

If you would like a tour of our large site prior to application please contact the Facilities Manager on 01843 222553 to arrange an appointment.

CVs will not be accepted so please complete the application form in full and explain how your skills and experience make you a suitable candidate for the role.

Garlinge Primary School and Nursery is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Our Safeguarding Policy is available on the school website.

Shortlisted candidates will be subject to online checks following Keeping Children Safe in Education 2022. The interviewee will also be asked questions relating to the safeguarding of children.

We are also committed to championing staff wellbeing and all employees can access free counselling, occupational health support and supervision sessions.

This post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service and a check against the ISA Barred List for Children, two satisfactory references and right to work in the UK documentation. All new employees to the school, including those with previous local government service, shall be subject to a 6 month probationary period.

If applicants have not been contacted by 26 April they have been unsuccessful.
