Assistant Headteacher ‘Teaching & Learning’

We are looking to appoint an inspirational Assistant Headteacher to join our successful junior school.

Applicants do not need to currently be on a Leadership Team but must be able to show that they have proven school leadership experience that has had a significant impact on the whole school. Above anything else, you must have an uncompromising passion for teaching and believe that you can make the necessary contribution to ensuring the best start for every child, both leading teaching yourself and by taking whole school leadership responsibility.  Having KS1 experience would be an advantage because this would provide a foundation to our KS2 curriculum.

Our Assistant Headteacher will:

  • In the first instance, be an inspirational and talented teacher with a proven track record of improving outcomes for children
  • Be a courageous school leader – our pupils deserve a first-class educational experience. You must firmly believe this and be prepared to question practices in the school that do not match the high standards we expect from every member of the Upton staff.
  • Take the leading role for Curriculum and Standards throughout the school
  • Be an excellent role model for staff and pupils
  • Liaise effectively with parents, staff, governors and the wider community
  • Understand the importance of assessment data and use this to track progress and attainment of all pupils
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills

Our commitment to you…

You can expect:

  • 512 talented pupils, each deserving an Assistant Headteacher that will willingly go that extra mile to ensure they succeed.
  • Excellent CPD including NPQH or other leadership training for the right candidate
  • A supportive school community with excellent facilities
  • A well supported staff team, committed to ensure all pupils achieve their potential

Prospective candidates will be expected to make a visit to the school and meet with Miss Arthur, Head of School via headofschool@uptonjunior.com

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our students. You are advised that this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and therefore this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Empowering children through education: One Childhood One Chance

Information about the trust

The Viking Academy Trust is a primary only, Multi-Academy Trust consisting of three inspirational schools: Upton Junior School, Chilton Primary School and Ramsgate Arts Primary School.

Our One Childhood One Chance philosophy resonates throughout everything we do at the Viking Academy Trust.

At Viking, we make sure that our ultimate focus and core purpose remains excellent teaching and learning for every child. Our teaching is progressive and adaptive and we strive for the best outcomes for all. We invest time and training into our staff so that they can invest their skills and expertise into our children.

For children to thrive, they need to feel that they belong. Our people and our environments are warm and welcoming. Every member of our staff invests in building strong relationships with children and getting to know children well means we can focus on equity of opportunity.

This means that we can prioritise social and emotional learning along with the academic as we know that children need to learn how to be resilient, to have healthy and safe relationships and to face the world with problem solving skills.

We nurture children to become responsible citizens, ready to face the modern world and to make the most of their every potential both academically and socially. At Viking schools, we have high standards and expectations and we know how to support children to reach them.
