Second in Charge of Science

(with the capability to lead Chemistry)

Required for September 2023

(or earlier by negotiation)

MPS/UPS + TLR 2b

We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and experienced teacher to act as second in charge of the department and also providing innovative, high quality leadership of Chemistry. You will work closely with our Director of Science and our Head of Physics to improve the student experience across all 3 Science disciplines.

This is a new role to the school, therefore, we are seeking a candidate who has bold and creative vision centred around a solid base of high quality teaching. It will be desirable, but not essential, if the successful candidate is able to teach Chemistry at A Level but they will need to teach all 3 Sciences at KS3 and KS4.

In partnership with the Director of Science and other leaders, you will:

  • Develop a dynamic and inspiring Science provision
  • Lead a team of teachers and students to high levels of success
  • Consider the school’s ‘Pure potential’ belief and how this can be interpreted within Science
  • Support the development of the Science staffing body and Chemistry pedagogical approaches
  • Have high expectations and aspirations for the students

In return, we offer an exciting and rewarding place to work; where staff enjoy working within a modern science block; students that are keen to learn and achieve and appreciate their teachers’ dedication and support. Our high expectations and aspirations for our students has placed the school, repeatedly over time, as one of the highest achieving non-selective schools in Kent.

Please use the contact details below if you would like the opportunity to tour the school or to discuss the role informally before making an application.

Please return a completed application form, to Mrs A Dennett, HR Manager, Hillview School for Girls, Brionne Gardens, Tonbridge, Kent, TN9 2HE or by email: dennetta@hillview.kent.sch.uk
