Advert

An exciting opportunity has arisen for us to appoint a committed, caring and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to our wonderful team at Martello Primary school. We are looking for a candidate who is dedicated, patient and hardworking, to help our children enjoy, learn and achieve success. The position will be primarily working one-to-one with a child who has Special Educational Needs and who accesses our Specialist Resource Provision. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a very positive difference to the life of a child with additional needs. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to work 32.5 hours a week, 8:30am - 3:30pm (30 minute lunch break), term time plus INSET days. This is a 12 month contract but we would look to extend this following a successful probation period. We currently have two positions available as a result of additional funding that we have been able to access.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shows optimism, positively and ambition for the school, its pupils and the Trust
  • Has experience supporting children with SEND in an educational capacity
  • Is a great team-player
  • Has a desire to make a real difference to the lives of pupils in an area of coastal disadvantage and fully embrace the diverse community
  • Has secure subject knowledge, including of phonics/ early reading
  • Is committed to their own continuing professional development so that the learning opportunities offered are grounded in knowledge of best practice and are evidence-informed

In return, we can offer:

  • Wonderful children with a desire to learn and achieve
  • A hardworking and committed staff team
  • A vibrant, diverse and inclusive school that makes for an inspiring place to work
  • The chance to make a real difference to the lives of children and their families, some of whom face significant challenges and disadvantage
  • Exceptional CPD opportunities
  • A well-equipped and resourced school (it was newly built less than 7 years ago)
  • Excellent collaborative links between the three Turner Schools primaries at all levels
  • A Trust that prioritises wellbeing for all, including staff

The successful candidate will work primarily as a 1:1 TA supporting a child with SEN, working closely with the class teacher and TA team to facilitate excellent learning opportunities for the child. At Martello we recognise the crucial importance of securing strong reading skills at an early age: experience of supporting children’s early reading and phonics development would be advantageous, though not essential as training will be provided. It would be helpful to have an idea of candidates’ areas of strengths and experience, so please include this on your application form. We welcome visits to the school and are confident that when you step into our school you will want to be a part of what we do! We are Martello; we are proud!

We reserve the right to withdraw the advert if a suitable candidate is found before the close date.

Information about the school

Martello Primary is a one-form entry school situated in the East Cliff area of Folkestone. It opened to all year groups almost seven years ago and within this time has established strong provision across the school. It was rated by Ofsted in March 2022 as Good in all areas. The school additionally has a Specialist Resource Provision specifically supporting 15 children with a diagnosis of autism.

Being a small primary school means that we are able to maintain a ‘family’ feel to the school and really nurture our children’s needs. Many children who come to our school are disadvantaged and face challenges which could present barriers to their learning and achievement without the exceptional care of the committed staff team.

Links with the local community have brought many enrichment opportunities to pupils: the Locavore Community Garden hosts weekly outdoor learning lessons for pupils across the school and there are strong partnerships with local sporting and creative organisations.

Collaboration is strong between Martello and the two other excellent primaries in the Turner Trust; Morehall Primary and Folkestone Primary, both of which are geographically close by. Subject Networks are well-established, and a culture of sharing planning and expertise has been established. Staff report that they are happy and enjoy working at Martello.

Martello Primary is an exciting place to work, and somewhere you know you can make a positive difference to the lives of young people. We warmly encourage you to visit our school. Please contact Louise Lythgoe, Executive Headteacher, to make an appointment, via the school office on 01303 847540.
