Job role: Teaching Assistant (Maternity Cover) - South Avenue Primary School  

Salary:  FMAT Band B1 £18,598.00 p.a. FTE (Pro-rata £11,050.17 p.a.) 

Hours:  26 hours per week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday: 8.30am – 3.30pm with 30 minutes lunch duty. Term Time only  Contract Status: Fixed Term Contract:  January 2023 - January 2024  Contract Start Date: January 2023

 We are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join our wonderful and supportive team. You should be a positive and enthusiastic person who loves working with children, especially children with Special Educational Needs.  The successful applicant will ideally have experience working with children who have autism and/or Speech and Language difficulties and helping them to strive for their bestAbove all, you need to like children, to want the very best for them and be prepared to put their needs first. Children will be at the heart of your work. You must be able to demonstrate that you understand the importance of educating the whole child.  It is essential that the applicant has good English/Maths skills and should preferably hold an NVQ 3 or equivalent teaching assistant qualification. Further experience with positive handling, language interventions and or autism training would be beneficial to the role.

Responsibilities may include:  Supporting groups of children, or a child 1:1, in achieving the lesson objective in English, Maths and across all areas of the curriculum.  Leading groups of children or 1:1 intervention programme.  Feeding back to the class teacher, sometimes keeping records of progress and behaviour.  Working with children to support any social, emotional, behavioural, personal care or medical needs

The ideal candidate will:  Be passionate, sharing a commitment to support our children.  Ideally have some knowledge or experience working with children with SEND.  Have the enthusiasm to provide personalised learning experiences to children with SEND.  Have a calm, patient and encouraging manner, with an ability to make learning fun.  An ability to be self-motivated and manage time effectively in order to maximise children’s learning time. Flexible and willing to support children in a variety of situations.
