Advert

Due to our continued expansion we are seeking to recruit an outstanding Learning Support Practitioner to meet the needs of young adults with learning difficulties or disabilities.

As a Learning Support Practitioner, you will work closely with the teaching staff to support our learners in all aspects of their learning, social development, personal needs and developing their skills for independence and employability.  In this role you will be able to make a big difference to our young people, all of whom have a wide range of severe and/or complex needs, with associated communication and learning difficulties.

You need to be able to engage and enthuse our young people and help prepare them for adulthood.  You don't need experience of working in a special needs or education environment, although it would be advantageous, as would experience of college or work-based learning.  Excellent literacy and numeracy skills are essential, along with a "can do" approach, flexibility, resilience and strong communication and team working skills.

There are many career development opportunities for those interested in progression, including into teaching and job coaching. Other benefits of working at The Oaks Specialist College including private healthcare, Perkbox and free health screening. If you are interested in the role please visit our website www.theoaks.ac.uk for more information about the College.

Please note we are unable to accept CVs or applications through agencies.

The Oaks Specialist College is committed to safeguarding our learners, a commitment we expect all staff to share and uphold.

Information about the school

We have been awarded Outstanding in all areas following our OFSTED inspection in May 2023.

Our aim is to complement and work alongside existing providers in the area to ensure that the needs and aspirations of all young people with learning difficulties and disabilities (LLDD) can be met locally. Our learners travel to College from within Kent and surrounding authorities.

We work closely with a number of employers and other organisations to ensure that the skills, knowledge and understanding gained in college are applied in the “real world” so that every learner makes clear progress and develops into a young person who is respected and valued in their community and is confident and able to contribute fully. On leaving The Oaks our young people will gain employment, further training or meaningful volunteering roles and be able to live their life more independently – with less dependency on others as they continue to develop, mature and thrive.

Our mission is to put young people with learning disabilities at the heart of all that we do. We achieve our success by having a great team of staff who really care about the work that they do with our young people and who have a wide range of skills and expertise plus drive and total commitment to our vision.

Our vision is to give all of our young adults opportunities to discover ways of learning that engage them and enable them to gain new skills and knowledge. We strive to ensure every learner is exceptionally well prepared to live a positive, meaningful and productive long term future.
