Elms School is a special day school for children with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. Pupils in the Secondary department have learning difficulties as well.  The school has a mixed roll of 159 students between the ages of 5 and 16.  Class sizes are around ten pupils with one Teacher and two Teaching Assistants.

We are looking for a dynamic, innovative and creative individual who are a good team players to tutor our students. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of the curriculum and how to take a nurturing approach in supporting pupils. The successful candidate will have a high level of emotional intelligence and resilience, a flexible approach to their work and an ability to embrace change.

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs is desirable but not essential.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to engage our pupils in learning and to meet their needs in lessons.  Strong behaviour management skills will be essential.  Our children have social, emotional and mental health needs and a nurturing approach and high levels of empathy are essential. Most importantly, if you have high levels of emotional intelligence, resilience and a desire to make every day a learning experience, we are keen to hear from you.

The school has been assessed as Good following the Ofsted inspection in October 2017. The most recent inspection report was published in November 2019. Elms is a special school for pupils with social, emotional, mental health and learning needs. Most pupils display associated challenging behaviours resulting from a variety of difficulties and needs, including PTSD, attachment difficulties, ODD, ADHD, ASD and FASD.

Our broad and balanced curriculum is relevant, engaging and provides opportunities to achieve academic success as well as equipping them with skills for life. Our highly-trained staff provide bespoke therapeutic interventions, such as Thrive, to target developmental gaps and enable pupils to manage their behaviour and regulate their emotions so that they can form meaningful relationships throughout their lives. We also use Restorative Approaches to build and maintain a sense of community and to provide our pupils with the ability and attitude to respect the viewpoints of others and, when necessary, take responsibility for resolving conflict and putting things right.

Our Ofsted inspection in October 2017 was rated Good.

We have a large team, including our transport team who bring the pupils to and from school in our fleet of MPVs.
