NCPS is recruiting for a classroom teacher and we are looking for the best. We educate and care for over 700 wonderful children from a range of backgrounds. We want the best for every single one of them, however when recruiting, we are particularly thinking about our most vulnerable children- the children for whom an amazing teacher can make the difference in their life chances.

As a large community primary school, we pride ourselves in our relationships between staff, pupils and parents; fostering a warm and friendly environment for all. We have an incredible welfare team, who ensure that all welfare, behavioural needs and SEND are well supported. Our curriculum is exciting, ambitious and engaging- tailored to the needs of our children, and stemming from our curriculum drivers: health, diversity, citizenship and aspirations. All staff who work at Newington, work together- ensuring consistency for children, to ensure that every child excels.

We strive for the very best for our children, and therefore we look to get the very best from our teachers. This means regular CPD opportunities, a curriculum which continues to evolve and improve, and an understanding that all of our teachers work collaboratively to produce the highest quality lessons for our children. We balance high expectations and excellence in teaching, with a package of support, to ensure that our teachers enjoy a good work life balance. This includes:

  • An additional 10% release time for leadership
  • Specialist teachers for Music, Spanish, ICT, & PE (who teach during PPA/leadership/ECT time)
  • No paper planning (all planning on SMART notebooks)
  • A bank of existing SMART notebook planning to draw upon
  • A marking policy which is not onerous or unnecessary
  • A range of subscriptions to support planning, teaching and assessment
  • A reprographics assistant for photocopying and laminating
  • A nurture room with two dedicated learning mentors, to support teachers in managing behaviour, wellbeing and specific learning needs
  • Staff meetings are 3:30-4:30, and do not go beyond (and do not happen when there are discos or Parents’ Evening)
  • Clubs are primarily run by TAs- there is no expectation upon teachers
  • One breaktime duty a week
  • Email cut off time of 7pm and no weekend emails
  • Year group planning and preparation is shared between four teachers
  • Small class size- maximum of 26
  • Free tea/coffee/milk and lunch
  • School closure time - 17:30
  • An INSET day dedicated to report writing
  • A dedicated TA for every class

For our new teachers, we provide a programme of induction, to ensure every teacher makes the very best start at our school.

This post is to cover maternity leave, and is a one year contract in the first instance.

The start date is January 2022, or sooner.

We strongly encourage candidates to come and visit our school before applying. For any interested candidates, please ring our school office, or email headteacher@newington-ramsgate.kent.sch.uk

Information about the school

Newington Community Primary School and Nursery is a large primary school which is situated on the outskirts of Ramsgate. We are 3-form entry, however every year group is split into four classes, to ensure a lower adult to child ratio.

We have a committed and enthusiastic staff who are determined to enable every child to achieve their potential. Our children are at the heart of everything we do. OFSTED visited us in April 2017 and agreed with our judgement that we do an outstanding job for the children in our care!

Have a look at our Facebook page for a real flavour of what is happening in our school.

At Newington Community Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expect staff and visitors to share this commitment.

This post is subject to satisfactory references, DBS clearance and proof of the right to work in the UK.
