Penshurst CE Primary School are seeking a compassionate and experienced Special Needs Teaching Assistant. The successful candidate will be required to provide some 1:1 or small group support as well as more whole class support.

We are looking for an experienced practitioner, who is confident in working with pupils who have additional needs, particularly young people with complex emotional needs. The ideal candidate will be flexible and adapt quickly to provide support in a range of contexts.

The position is full-time

This post would suit a candidate who has:

  • Experience of working with children with SEN; including autism and complex emotional needs
  • A good understanding of an education and school settings (identifying challenges and strengths of the setting to support SEND pupils)
  • Creative and dynamic in their approach to teaching and learning – adapting learning as necessary and making it very practical
  • Enthusiastic team-player and strong communicator
  • Empathetic, vigilant and nurturing
  • Skilled at precise record keeping
  • Always looking to develop knowledge skills further

Information about the school

We are a small village church school, at the heart of our community, set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have 80 pupils taught in four classes: Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6.

The school plays a very active role in the local and wider community and provides many opportunities for children to develop their talents and interests, whether this be in the sporting competitions we take part in or in our wide range of extra-curricular clubs.

Our staff team is small, friendly and mutually supportive, which we believe is a real strength of our school. Our Christian values are important to us and are at the heart of all we strive to achieve.
