We wish to appoint a well-qualified, confident and enthusiastic teacher to join our hard working English department. The successful candidate will be expected to plan, prepare and teach lessons to a good standard up to CGSE level. We currently follow the AQA specification for both English language and English literature GCSE.

 

You will also need to possess the personal qualities’ and skills needed to teach successful lessons to students who have complex SEMH/ASD needs.

 

We would also like you to be a Form Tutor to a small group (up to 7), students.

Information about the school

Portal House School is a thriving community Special School for Secondary aged students situated in the picturesque village of St Margaret’s at Cliffe, near Dover. All students have either Social, Emotional and Behavioral difficulties or Autism as their primary SEN. Students have roughly national average cognitive ability. Behaviour is their biggest barrier to accessing education. Students are taught the full range of National Curriculum subjects in small year groups classes (Max 7 students per class). The curriculum offer is academic and leads to GCSE and BTEC qualifications in up to 11 subjects. Students are referred to the school by the Local Authority SEN department and offered a “fresh start” to their secondary education in modern, fit for purpose specialist facilities, staff are committed to reversing patterns of failure associated with school and learning.
