Job Description

Join Tuition Extra as our SENDCO and play a key role in shaping life changing education for children and young people with SEND.


We are looking for an experienced, committed professional to lead on SEND strategy, drive high quality provision, and support colleagues to deliver exceptional outcomes for every student.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Service, the SENDCO will:

  • Lead the strategic development of SEND policy and provision across the service
  • Oversee the day to day operation of SEND processes and ensure high quality support for individual learners
  • Provide expert guidance to colleagues and work closely with families, external partners, and agencies
  • • Maintain a strong overview of all SEND provision, ensuring Tuition Extra continues to meet statutory expectations and best practice standards
    While the SENDCO holds overall responsibility for SEND provision, Tutors retain day to day responsibility for the education and support of the students they work with.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
• Shape and review the service’s SEND policy and ensure it is embedded in the Service Improvement Plan
• Maintain up to date knowledge of national and local SEND developments
• Contribute to service self evaluation and quality assurance processes

Operational SEND Management
• Guide colleagues on teaching and supporting students with SEND
• Lead on the graduated approach to SEND support
• Work collaboratively with educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and the local authority
• Analyse assessment data and oversee SEND interventions, evaluating their impact
Support for Students
• Coordinate SEND provision that meets individual needs and monitor its effectiveness
• Ensure accurate, up to date SEND records and documentation

Leadership, Training & Culture
• Work with the Head of Service to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010, including reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
• Contribute to whole service policy development
• Identify and address training needs, leading staff CPD on SEND
• Promote a positive, inclusive culture that drives strong outcomes for students with SEND

Safeguarding
• Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead
• Maintain vigilance regarding the heightened vulnerabilities of young people with SEND
• Uphold all safeguarding responsibilities, policies and the staff code of conduct
