Teacher of English

Required 27th August 2019

When you’re one of the UK’s largest progressive and innovative Secondary Schools, rated “A good School in all aspects” OFSTED October 2012, it’s a title that you want to retain and strive to improve upon. To further boost our students’ academic achievement, we’re looking for a qualified Teacher of English to work with our students across all key stages to develop their learning - NQTs are also welcomed.

Our energetic and highly-motivated English department are actively engaged in an integrated programme of reading, writing, speaking and listening, drama and media activities.  Assessment for learning, active learning and positive reinforcement are cornerstones of the department’s philosophy.

At Key Stage 3, all students follow a core of schemes of work that are cross-curricular in a highly creative learning environment.  At Key Stages 3 and 4, students are generally taught in mixed-ability groups, although there is a single high-ability set in each of the timetabling bands.  Students requiring additional support are offered the Literacy Progress Units and literacy mentoring.

At A Level, English Literature, English Language and Literature and creative writing are consistently amongst the most popular subject choices of sixth form students.  All courses follow AQA specifications.  Results are consistently impressive with value added at every Key Stage.

In return, you will enjoy a unique working environment in the heart of the Weald of Kent, discounts and offers with Kent Rewards and ongoing training and support to help you excel and develop your career as a teacher.  All teaching staff are provided with an Apple device and there is also a nursery based on the school site which offers discounts to Homewood Staff.

We are not accepting applications from employment agencies for this position but would be delighted to receive a direct application

Closing date for applications: 23rd April 2019 however early applications are encouraged as we review applications as we receive them.

An application form and more information can be accessed on the following websitewww.homewood-school.co.uk or please contact Mrs Karen Nicholls, Human Resources at the above address.

Information about the school

Homewood School and Sixth Form Centre is a mixed 11 – 18 wide ability school with Academy status with 2000 students including 350 in the Sixth Form. We are part of Tenterden Schools’ Trust working in collaboration with local primary schools and nurseries serving the Wealden town of Tenterden and the surrounding villages. The school is situated on the edge of Tenterden and enjoys a large semi-rural site overlooking open countryside. Home Farm Nursery is based in the grounds of Homewood School.

Homewood has excellent facilities for all its students and our specialisms in Performing Arts, Applied Learning and the Rural Dimension underpin our approaches to learning which are designed to raise achievement across the whole student body. We aim to maintain and develop the cultural aspirations of the school community in line with our priorities of “belonging” and “respect” and offer a broad range of curriculum opportunities in all subject areas. This also extends into the local community through partnerships across primary, secondary and higher education sectors as well as non-educational community partners.

Homewood provides a secure and caring learning environment in which all students can flourish and succeed. It is a school renowned for its support for students’ wellbeing. Heads of Community provide academic and pastoral leadership for the students in their Community, supported by dedicated form tutors, a Family Liaison Officer and Assistant Head of Community. A range of other staff including counsellors and a qualified nurse help and support the students through their time at Homewood. Consideration and respect for each other is central to our work and we are justly proud of our students’ achievements.

I hope you will be inspired to submit an application to join us. If you are successful, you can be assured of a very warm welcome and a real opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the young people of this part of Kent.
