Local Area

Tunbridge Wells is a large town on the border between Kent and East Sussex.  It has a rich cultural history dating back to 1606 when a young noble man travelling from the south asked a farm worker for a glass of water.   The water had a strong metallic taste and the young man immediately recognised its health giving qualities.  A spa had been discovered and tourism begun in this otherwise neglected corner of south-east England.  The Georgians turned it into a thriving holiday destination and later on the Victorians, after the arrival of the railway, saw it as a peaceful place to build large villas to house their large families - all within commutable distance of London.

Modern Tunbridge Wells is an exciting place to live.  We have a municipal concert/theatre hall, plus an arts venue; a large shopping -centre with a range of good quality shops; a selection of local shops and cafés, plus some excellent restaurants.  The area around the Pantiles offers an historic backdrop to any  social outing  exploring the bespoke shops, bars and cafes that proliferate in the vicinity. There are many thriving theatrical/opera/ music societies plus a large multiplex cinema on the edge of the town.

We offer a huge range of schools in the town.  There are three Grammar schools, two faith schools and an Academy school, plus many primary schools stretched across the locality.  There are a large number of well-run churches that offer a range of activities for young people.  There is a popular sports centre which offers all sorts of opportunities for involvement.

We have transport links to London from two train stations, one sited in the heart of the town.  There is an easy journey to the A21 which links directly into the M25. Gatwick airport is about 40 minutes drive away.

There are many large parks and common areas in the town, many with amenities for children.  We are also very close to the wild open spaces of Ashdown Forest across the border in East Sussex.

Tunbridge Wells can offer any resident the best of both worlds, having its own vibrant community spirit, an accessibility to London and yet on the doorstep of the countryside with all its pursuits and pleasures.
