St John's C.E.Primary School

Chair of Governors Letter

3rd July 2014

Dear Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the position of Headteacher at St John’s School.  Our school is one of the largest single site primary schools in the county and we are extremely lucky to have all of our facilities in one place.  We have 648 children on the school roll and we are able to provide a happy and vibrant learning environment with large school playing grounds and fields and a purpose built early years play area.   Such is our popularity and good reputation that we are consistently oversubscribed.

We have a large and supportive staff and an enthusiastic and capable Senior and Middle Leadership Team.  All our teaching and support staff are committed to the improvement and the development of lifelong learners.

Two years ago we embraced the idea of a creative approach to teaching and the curriculum.   Our staff have responded positively to ideas and activities that this approach allows them to achieve, and we have seen great benefits to the children’s learning.

We take great pride in the fact that it is not only the children that learn, but that as a school we encourage everyone to continue with their professional development.  We are also able to run a great many clubs and activities for our children using our extensive learning environment and dedicated teaching staff.

As a Church of England Primary School we have established links with the Diocese and with our founder church.  We have a strong Christian ethos in the school, and care very much for all of our children.  This is reflected in their positive attitude to each other and thoughtful way in which they conduct themselves.  We have an inclusive policy to all members of our school family.

The Governing Body is very active, and there is a wide range of skill, enthusiasm and commitment to make St John’s the best it can be.

Our last Ofsted inspection was in February 2013 and the school was judged to be good in all 4 areas. Our current Headteacher is retiring in July 2014 and we are seeking to employ someone who will be able to lead our school on its journey to outstanding.  Whilst we aim to appoint as soon as possible we are prepared to be flexible about a starting date for the right candidate.

If you have any further questions please contact:  clerktogovernors@st-johns.kent.sch.uk.

I look forward to receiving your application.
