Routes to QTS: Assessment Only Route

If you are an unqualified teacher working in education and/or already have a lot of teaching experience you could be eligible for the Assessment Only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

This route allows candidates to demonstrate that they already meet the required standards for QTS without the need for further training.

In order to be eligible for this route candidates must be able to provide evidence of the following criteria:

• Grade C or above in English and Maths (for primary teaching a grade C or above in Science is also required)
• Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
• having successfully passed the professional skills tests
• have experience teaching in at least two schools, early years or further education setting.
