At Maypole Primary School we pride ourselves on our caring, friendly and inclusive environment and put our children first to ensure they all reach their full potential. We are proud to have happy children, supportive parents and carers and staff that work hard to support our children and families. The relationships we develop with our children and families enable us to create a distinctive ethos and we encourage all children to try their best and reward them when they do.

We are passionate about educating the whole child and ensure that we provide pupils with a wide range of experiences and opportunities. Our school staff work hard to ensure our curriculum is broad and balanced. We firmly believe that each child is unique and celebrate this view at every opportunity. We acknowledge that children progress in different ways and at different rates and believe all areas of learning are equally important and interconnected.

The children at Maypole are taught to embrace a growth mind-set and take appropriate risks whilst supporting them to become independent and resilient learners that can develop their own lines of enquiry, as well as finding their own answers. This allows children to gain a deeper understanding and a real purpose for learning.

Raising pupils’ self-esteem and emotional wellbeing is also a key priority for us and due to the support that is put in place, high outcomes across all subjects and areas of the curriculum are maintained.

In our latest Ofsted Inspection (June 2018), the school continued to remain good and since then has only gone from strength to strength, despite the recent disruption to education. The school community is committed to pupils reaching the highest possible standards and to further improve their achievements. Leaders and governors are relentlessly ambitious and consistently aim for outstanding outcomes in all aspects of the school.

The pastoral care of children is a strength of the school, and any vulnerable pupils are identified quickly. Pupils’ well-being is monitored alongside their academic progress. In addition to our SENCo, we have several specialist speech and language and EAL trained LSAs to improve outcomes for identified pupils across the school. We also have a Learning Mentor to support those children who may need extra emotional support. All staff work alongside children and vulnerable families to improve outcomes and support positive parenting.

The school provides excellent CPD opportunities for staff, which includes the development of highly effective NQTs and trainee teachers. There is a culture of ‘grow your own’ teachers and leaders, and senior leaders support subject and middle leaders well in all areas of their professional development.
