Local Area

Dover is a town and major ferry port in Kent, South East England. Across the channel is France and the area is most famous for the stunning chalk cliffs known as the White Cliffs of Dover.  Because of its location, throughout history Dover was considered to be of great strategic importance and the fortress of Dover Castle was known as the ‘key to England’ providing defence for over nine centuries.

Dover Priory is the main train station in the town and trains go to London St Pancras International in just over an hour via the high-speed rail. The other direction leads towards Ramsgate or Sandwich in Kent. It is also a convenient location to access the continent with the Dover Calais ferry at the Port of Dover. The other option is to board the Eurostar at Ashford International only half an hour away train.

There are good options for shopping, the Charlton Shopping Centre in town or De Bradelei Wharf discount shopping outlet by the seafront. The town also offers a range of high street brands and when you need a shopping break, you can visit one of the many cafes or restaurants.

Dover has an independent picture house showing new releases and classic movies as well as a museum to discover the colourful history of the area. The Dover Harbour Beach is the main beach in the area with easy access to the town’s facilities. There are three other beaches to discover in the area.

Not far lies the Kent Downs, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where you can enjoy nature walks in the wonderful Kent countryside.
