Local Area

Tunbridge Wells is a town of about 60,000 people right at the western edge of Kent, in the countryside near to the border with East Sussex. It is well-connected to the road and rail networks, so access is easy from the local area. It lies on the train line between Charing Cross and Hastings, with London about 50 minutes away, and trains running four times an hour on weekdays.

It is a very family friendly town, with lots of schools, wonderful award-winning parks and some great places to visit in the town and nearby.  The Sussex coast is about an hour away by car, and local attractions include castles, stately homes and play/activity centres.  It is also a very attractive town, with its sprawling common, its Georgian colonnade, the Pantiles, and a wide variety of architectural styles amongst its many beautiful historic buildings.

The town boasts some of the best shopping in the area, with a diverse range of standard high street shops, department stores and small boutiques in town, and a retail park just outside.

There are some excellent local food retailers and regular farmers’ and produce markets held in the centre and the Pantiles. We have a theatre, a multiplex cinema and a smaller independent town centre screen, as well as lots of restaurants, bars, pubs and live music venues. The town boasts music and cultural events, including gin, food and beer festivals and the weekly summer music celebration, Jazz on the Pantiles, which draws crowds from across the region, plus other larger events in the town’s parks, such as Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park.
