Eastchurch CEP School

Local Area

Eastchurch CEP School is based in Isle of Sheppey, Kent, in the South East of England. The school is located on two sites, in the villages Eastchurch and Leysdown-on-Sea. Although the school is separated into two, the school effectively runs as one.

Leysdown-on-Sea is a coastal village on the east of the island, just 3 miles from Eastchurch. Eastchurch is further in land and is known as the home of British Aviation, with its history stretching back to the first decade of the 20th century.

The Isle of Sheppey has a strong community feel and holds regular events. Every year, the Parish Council holds an Observance to the birth of the British Aviation. The close-knit community gets together to celebrate its heritage.

Eastchurch holds the largest and fastest expanding port in the UK which was established in the 17th Century in Sheerness, known as a Royal Navy Dockyard town. Sheerness is the largest town on the north-west of the island and has recently been awarded a Blue Flag for its beach.

The Isle of Sheppey is home to two National Nature Reserves; Elmley and Swale and are both known for the extensive wildlife. Both nature reserves are perfect for a peaceful walk; the island boasts wonderful marsh surroundings.

In the vicinity of the school, there is a supermarket, as well as the high street for all your shopping needs. The Parish Church is also round the corner. The school is less than 2 miles from the sea and you could enjoy a walk along the sea front, particularly on a warm day.

Transport links are strong; the M2 is a short 15 minutes’ drive and the M20 is 30 minutes away, offering quick access to the rest of the county. There are also two train stations on the island which provide regular links to other Kent towns in under an hour, and to London in an hour and a half.
