The Governing body of The Beacon is seeking to appoint a committed, dynamic leader to join our forward thinking school.  The successful candidate will be an outstanding practitioner within the field of Special Education with the motivation and energy to develop the new role of Head of Support and Development within the school. 

The Head of Support and Development will work in partnership with the Head of School to raise standards of teaching, learning and student progress within The Beacon.  This role will also oversee the schools Multi Agency partnerships, the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service and lead our Teaching School work.  As such this is an exciting post that requires a school leader who can work both autonomously to deliver outcomes and cooperatively as part of the Leadership Team.

The Beacon is a modern, rapidly growing all age special school (3-19 years) catering for 354 pupils with Profound Severe and Complex learning needs.

The School has an Ofsted Outstanding rating from the previous ‘Outstanding’ judgements at Foxwood and Highview Schools.

We are seeking a leader who:
  • Has a proven record of leadership success
  • Has a Solution Focus and places teamwork at the centre of their leadership philosophy
  • Has experience of raising standards through coaching, mentoring and collaborative approaches to staff development
  • Can drive forward whole school initiatives to impact significantly on pupil progress 
  • Has a thorough knowledge and deep understanding of all aspects of curriculum development, teaching standards, pupil progress and safeguarding in a special needs setting
  • Is optimistic and passionate about maximising the potential and outcomes for pupils with special educational needs and has the energy and imagination to innovate and constantly develop the School’s provision
  • Is an excellent communicator who will work closely with Governors, parents, agencies and schools in the local area
