Mundella Primary School

About The School

Please read a letter from our Chair of Governors.

Mundella Primary School is a one form entry community school. The school was built in Victorian times and is now a listed building; it provides a good standard of accommodation including seven classrooms, a main hall, an ICT suite and a community room.

Mundella Primary School serves an area close to the centre of Folkestone. Many of our children join in Reception with skills and knowledge that are below those expected typically for their age.  Just under half of our children are disadvantaged and one fifth of our pupils have a first language that is not English.

Our staff and governors are very committed to ensuring that the school provides a safe and secure environment in which all children are nurtured and supported in their personal and intellectual development. The school works hard to raise the aspirations of children, particularly those who are significantly disadvantaged, and to equip them with the skills they need to achieve in life. Generally our children make good progress during their time at Mundella Primary School.

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum that includes a wide range of enrichment activities that have a positive impact on our children’s enthusiasm and independence as learners. We provide a daily breakfast club and a number of after school clubs; these are of particular importance for our disadvantaged pupils.

Encouraging our pupils to behave well and to be good citizens are key priorities for the school; we take every opportunity to enable our children to develop their spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness for example through our good links with St John’s Church, the provision of tuition on musical instruments and a range of school trips both locally and beyond.
The school works within a hub of six schools, four of which are outstanding, to the benefit of our staff and pupils.

In March 2014, Mundella Primary School was judged by Ofsted inspectors as Requires Improvement. The follow up inspection in June 2016 rated the school as Good. The staff, governors, pupils and their families were delighted with this acknowledgment of the progress made by the school in raising standards in all aspects of the school’s work. However, it is recognised that there is still more that we can do to ensure that all our pupils not only make good progress but also achieve their full potential.
