The Churchill School

About The School

Please read a Letter from the Chair of Governors

The Churchill School is a busy, popular and oversubscribed two form entry school, in the town of Hawkinge, which is located 3 miles North of Folkestone and 12 miles South of Canterbury. It is part of the Vicus Co-operative Learning Trust with Hawkinge Primary School and Cheriton Primary School. We are a “Hands On Assessment Centre” that offers QFC training courses for Teaching assistants and pre-school assistants/Nursery Staff at Level 2 and 3.

The school resides on former RAF Hawkinge and originally consisted of a modular building of 3 classrooms, for 90 pupils. However, a new building was opened in 2001 and completed in 2002.

We now have 14 classes from Reception to Year 6 and it is a larger than an average-sized primary school.

Our recent Ofsted report, May 2015, was graded “Good” with outstanding features, after the leadership team and teachers worked tirelessly and devotedly to raise the standards of our school – which they did highly successfully, and are still continuing to do so. We aim to provide a stimulating environment that raises expectations for what children can achieve. We are excited about the new assessment that tracks pupils progress and enables them to master curriculum concepts; this enables our children to engage, develop, innovate and express.

We are an exemplar school for Pupil Premium by successfully closing the gap for these disadvantaged children; this year, 2016, we are a local Pupil Premium award winner.

Our Sports provision this academic year, has expanded significantly, allowing all children to become healthier and participate in a range of competitions and activities with other local schools -  we are very proud of what we have achieved so far.

Our children are at the heart of our community - they are hardworking, enthusiastic, happy, well-behaved and appreciate how much the school cares for them and their educational journey to help reach their potential.
