Barham CE Primary School

Local Area

Barham is a picturesque village in the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Beauty only 6 miles from the city of Canterbury.

We are fortunate to have regular Education Access class trips to a local farm run on conservation principles and owned by parents. When the Nailbourne (an intermittent stream) flows through the village it provides excellent opportunity for Geography lessons. Sports Days and Summer Fetes take place on the Village Green, immediately opposite the school.

The school benefits from being part of this close knit and welcoming rural community, yet is only minutes from the A2 which connects us to the rest of Kent and beyond. There are excellent rail links with a high speed service to London from Canterbury, the Eurostar from Ashford and the Channel Tunnel also close by. Travelling north, south or east the coast is just a short drive away, with many lovely beaches to choose from.

Barham is a vibrant village community with a pub, shop, recreation ground with tennis courts, active parish church, and many social activities and clubs. Thanks to National Lottery funding an extension and refurbishment of the Village Hall, to include a community shop, is underway.

The City of Canterbury is popular with both locals and tourists, with its UNESCO World Heritage Site (including the Cathedral) and many other heritage and historical sites – always useful for school trips.  Steeped in tradition, Canterbury is also a modern and vibrant city with a wide range of cultural activities(including the Marlowe Theatre) as well as excellent shopping and dining opportunities.
