Local Area

The Whinless Down Academy Trust is named after the nature reserve close by which provides outstanding views across Dover towards Dover Castle. Dover is rich in history and has undergone extensive regeneration over the past several years. Over a fifth (22%) of the district is designated as part of the Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Of this area, 3% is classed as Heritage Coast, centred on the White Cliffs of Dover. You can even look across the Dover Straits and see France on a clear day, just 21 miles across the channel.

The town benefits from high speed links via HS1 to central London and ferry services to Calais. Dover is also easily reachable from Folkestone, Deal and Canterbury within 30 minutes. Many people aspire to living by the sea and Dover is one of the most affordable towns for housing in Kent.

There are many beautiful areas within Dover to visit and enjoy, such as Dover Castle, Kearnsey Abbey and Russell Gardens, Samphire Hoe and South Foreland Lighthouse to name a few. At our schools, we take advantage of the history-rich local area for our learning and extra-curricular activities.
