ENTERPRISE, CHALLENGE AND THE INTERNATIONAL DIMENSION

With a strong reputation for academic standards and an enterprising culture, Dover Grammar School for Boys is set on becoming an "outstanding school". We encourage every student to achieve their potential and as our new headteacher, you will help us achieve ours.

VISION STATEMENT

Outcomes are proportional to expectations.

RAISING ASPIRATIONS

Located in striking buildings looking out over the town and harbour, Dover Grammar School for Boys holds strong traditions while being firmly focused on the future. Challenge and an international dimension play a key role in teaching and learning.

We are a selective school, recognised locally as a high achieving school and one that prepares students with skills for life. Students come from  diverse socio-economic backgrounds, and many who go on to university, are the first of their families to do so. Part of our role is focused on raising aspirations, encouraging our students to achieve their best and helping them to realise what that can be.

We have  talented teachers and excellent staff. All are specialists in their subject areas and convey their enthusiasm through innovative, engaging lessons. They are hard-working, student focused and dedicated to raising standards.

Our Senco manages the Learning Centre which supports students who have barriers to learning. Qualified learning mentors are also on hand to help those students who require extra support. Gifted and talented students are suitably challenged to enable them to reach their full potential.

We support our students to develop enterprise skills - risk-taking, creativity, teamwork and leadership - all of which will prepare them for a successful future.

These skills are further developed through our wide range of extra-curricular activities including school council, debating groups, drama clubs, music clubs and the Combined Cadet Force.

SIXTH FORM

The sixth form is the culmination of a student's life in a secondary school and an opportunity to develop the qualities of personal integrity, awareness of the wider community and individual effectiveness. Academically, we seek to foster independent learning, self- reliance and teamwork. Most of our students go onto university, and the aim is to prepare them for the next step in their education through encouraging them to take responsibility for their own learning and to build confidence in managing their own lives.

THE ROLE

As our new headteacher, you will lead us through a period of transition. With unshakeable core values and unwavering ambition, this leadership role offers a unique opportunity to redefine our strategy for achieving excellence.

You will be well supported by our committed governors, who were the first governing body of a Kent secondary school to be awarded the Governor Mark. Our local authority, Kent County Council, has a good induction programme for headteachers and runs a mentoring scheme for new headteachers.

Your clear vision, inspirational leadership and ability to empower will lead us to further success.
