Teaching assistant

Chevening CE Primary School needs to appoint an energetic and enthusiastic person to join our staff team; someone who loves to inspire and support our children and enjoys working in a strong team. We need someone who can work from 8.30 am to 3.15pm Monday to Friday. This talented person needs to be able to work in a class supporting the children's learning alongside the class teacher as well as leading interventions independently with a group of children.

This role would suit an experienced teaching assistant or a graduate who is considering teaching in the future and would like to be fully immersed in the life of a school for a year before training to teach. We are particularly interested in interviewing candidates with an interest in SEN, for example dyslexia or ASD. Chevening School has been a National Support School and we are experienced at training colleagues at all levels and helping people to train as teachers.

The successful person needs to

  • Have high expectation of themselves to do a really good job at all times
  • Have high expectations of the children’s achievement and behaviour
  • Communicate effectively with children, colleagues and parents
  • Judge when to seek advice, when to give advice and when to work on one’s own initative
  • Enjoy working in a supportive role with a class teacher but also enjoy taking the lead in some aspects of school life
  • Be well organised
  • Be flexible
  • Have a ‘can do’ and positive attitude to life

Our Christian values are alive throughout the school and we are seeking a person who will support this ethos. We are a happy, friendly staff and we would love to hear from you if you think you would like to join us.

Please email headteacher@chevening.kent.sch.uk if you have any further questions. Visits to the school are welcomed.

Please apply using the online application form  In the section 'Reason for applying ' please try to refer to the person specification and tell us why you are the right candidate for the job.

Our school and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Information about the school

We are a thriving, forward looking school within an idyllic village setting enjoying close links with St. Botolph’s Church and Chevening House. Our Christian values are alive throughout the school and our enthusiastic and responsive children are a joy to teach. The staff team is hardworking and dedicated to providing the best education for the children. Ofsted graded all aspects of the school as outstanding in February 2013 and our church school inspection in November last year was also graded outstanding. We have a reputation for high standards and are looking for a team player who wants to work in a vibrant, purposeful staff team. We have Specialist Leaders of Education within the team and other teachers regularly train or support colleagues in our local area. Our teachers are skilled and experienced at supporting colleagues both in our school and in other schools. We enjoy sharing good practice with other schools and learn much from other schools in the process.
