About the Federation

You can read a letter from our Chair of Governors, as well as a letter from the Director of Education for the Diocese of Canterbury, Canon Quentin Roper.

The Federation

The Federation was formally constituted in January 2012 following concerns in the Local Authority that Eythorne Elvington was vulnerable. Working together both schools have flourished and grown such that both are now high performing schools at the top end of the OFSTED Good rating.

We have reaped the benefits of working together, sharing resources and staff expertise across the two schools. The SENDCo works across both schools as does our Forest School leader. TAs have been flexible and worked at both schools as the needs arise.

Pupils can access joint activities such as sport competitions and Y6 residential weeks. They also share an after-school club and holiday clubs based at Sibertswold. We have parent/ grandparent support for clubs at both schools.

The Federation has a very positive collaboration with other schools in the Dover area which enables sharing of good practice, moderation and training.

Our vision is to develop an excellent school, creating an environment where we can all flourish and grow, with God at the centre; our Christian values of Love, Joy, Justice and Wisdom are at the heart of all that we do.

We are one of the most consistently successful schools in Kent, founded on our Outstanding teaching and learning which seeks to be the best we can. This is achieved through high challenge and expectations balanced with support for each child as unique and at the centre of all that we do. Our exciting curriculum embraces all aspects of learning including the full use of our outdoor environment and Forest School. Our children develop as happy, inquisitive and responsible learners.

We are a fully extended school with a thriving Breakfast Club and After School Club. We also run Holiday Clubs throughout the year; aiming to provide support for our parents. The school works closely with the village community; our hall is used regularly for the Shepherdswell Singers and in the winter months we hold monthly Saturday afternoon film shows for the benefit of the village. Last summer we hosted, over 2 days, a very successful village event, Sibertsfest. This showed the school at the heart of the community. We have a strong PTA and parental support. The local Diocese has leased a large area of Glebe land to the school which we have developed for Forest school and part of which will be planted as a tree cathedral to celebrate the Archbishop’s Lambeth 2020 conference.

We aim to provide an inclusive, outstanding education for all children. We regard hard work, good behaviour, high attainment and the development of our children as global citizens as being at the centre of our work. We provide a stimulating, effective and broad curriculum which develops the children as lifelong learners.

Our values of Caring for each other, Forgiveness, Recognising each one of us is special, Thankfulness, Perseverance and Trust underpin all that we do.

We have come a long way over the last 8 years and are now a consistently successful school, founded on our Outstanding teaching and learning environment. The excellent and dedicated staff and governors of the school aim to provide children with an education that is broadly based and is tailored to meet each child’s individual needs. We provide high challenge and our expectations are balanced with support for each child as unique and at the centre of all that we do.

Being a small school allows us to foster fantastic relations with not only the pupils but their families as well.  Small classes allow for focussed teaching in small adult-led groups to meet the needs of the child.  We are an outward looking school and our PTA runs events which have provided funding for specific projects outside of the normal school budget.

We work closely with the local community, being aware of its needs in order to enhance the opportunities we can support. We have a pre-school and a Children’s Centre on our site. Neither are run by the school but provide a holistic approach to providing for the needs of the children in our communities. We make use of our local church.
