Governors seek to appoint a dynamic inspirational leader to drive the school forward on its journey to ‘Outstanding’.

St Bartholomew’s is a successful, vibrant, over-subscribed Primary School of 350 children which is well resourced and with planning permission for Nursery Provision.  We are proud to provide a happy, caring pupil centred environment, celebrating many different cultures whilst ensuring that stimulating and inspiring learning is being delivered and taking account of all the needs of our children.  We are fortunate to have a large playing field on site offering children the opportunity of being involved and enjoying many sporting activities.

The school is located in a semi-rural location but only 20 minutes by fast train to Victoria, and 2 hours 10 minutes to Paris by Eurostar.  The towns of Dartford and Orpington are 20 minutes away by car and Maidstone 30 minutes away.  The town sits on the M25 and M20 motorways with the M2 just 10 minutes via M25. Yet Swanley is surrounded by open countryside and beautiful villages with areas of outstanding beauty to enjoy at leisure.

On behalf of our children the Governing Body are looking for a Headteacher who:

  • is a practising Catholic and who will provide energy and vision to allow all involved with this Catholic Parish School to develop their agreed mission for Catholic education in the school,

  • has the energy and vision to keep raising standards and inspiring children and all staff,

  • can maximise improvement opportunities and demonstrate strong and fair leadership skills with a clear vision and direction to lead by example,

  • is approachable and nurturing to staff, pupil and families,

  • is passionate and creative about teaching and learning and believes in the potential of all pupils and staff,

  • is willing to work with all stakeholders, including the extended community and surrounding schools, to identify areas of development and have the drive and commitment to further develop teaching, learning and assessment,

  • will work alongside governors to ensure their impact on school priorities and continued effective leadership of the school.

We welcome applications from Deputy Heads and serving HeadsVisits to the school are encouraged.

As a school community we can offer you:

  • an exciting challenge and opportunity to lead our school as it continues its journey to  ‘outstanding;’,

  • the opportunity to work with a committed staff and Governing Body, keen to unlock the school’s potential,

  • pupils who have a positive attitude to learning, who are hardworking, caring and proud to attend their school,

  • our able and committed staff with their ‘can do’ attitude who are dedicated to achieving the best possible outcomes.

  • opportunities to work alongside both local schools on various projects and three schools in the Medway area on Education Development Trust work (National Programme)  plus schools from the Gravesend Deanery and those in the Swanley Partnership of Schools on a variety of collaboration.

We have the support of an experienced governing body who are committed to developing the school as an inspirational unit.  We are proud of our diverse community and enriched by it.

We do not underestimate the challenges ahead in our ever changing educational landscape, but we will provide a supportive network to help our new Headteacher achieve success.
