Our school is situated on the edge of the village of Sutton Valence, overlooking the Weald of Kent. It serves the three Suttons - the villages of Sutton Valence, Chart Sutton and East Sutton, along with the nearby villages of Hawkenbury and Langley.
The school has good facilities including: a large playing field, environmental areas, sensory room, multi-purpose technology room including a fully equipped teaching kitchen. The school currently has 205 pupils and is a single form entry school. Children start school here as rising fives and continue to year 6 from where they mostly progress to schools in Maidstone.
There is a good choice of after school clubs including: Football, Musical Tuition, Chess and Crochet. The school also offers a wraparound care programme encompassing breakfast club from 7:30 am and an after-school club to 6:00 pm.
Since 2016 we have developed and grown our earth class (forest school) provision with a dedicated teacher and TA. This has grown to comprise chickens, covered areas for studying, a fire pit and pond. Recently we have further expanded with the introduction of a purpose-built cabin and dedicated allotment area. This has enabled the pupils to have access to an indoor space that is set up specifically for activities related to nature and the teaching of certain skills.
As well as this, we have a multi-purpose technology room within the school which is used for whole class cookery, projects and science experiments among other things.
Our Sensory room will be used by pupils across all year groups and includes:
• A bubble wall with interactive soft dice that controls colour
• An infinity panel with built-in colour-changing buttons
• A sensory mood light table and accessories
• A large sensory jellyfish tank
• A UV waterfall divider
• A wide range of handheld sensory resources and equipment
We have active links with the local community including:
• An active and supportive PTA who organise many events for the children
• Use of the Sutton Valence private school swimming pools, just across the road, to enable swimming tuition in the summer term
• Annual farmers market where the children grow our own produce and make food items from scratch to sell
• Community days with parents, staff and governors to develop and improve our outside area
• Projects with the local parish council
