TEACHER OF MUSIC An opportunity has become available for a Music teacher to join our staff from September. This is a permanent position and we envisage a full-time appointment, though anything above 0.8 fte would be considered.

The successful candidate will possess Qualified Teacher Status, but his/her experience to date will not necessarily consist wholly or even mainly of conventional classroom teaching. What we’re looking for is a charismatic communicator whose home idiom lies in the territory pop/rock/jazz, probably with instrumental expertise on guitar and/or keyboards. Music technology skills of a more general nature would be a strong additional recommendation.

The Departmental vision for the immediate future is a rapid, eclectic and culture-changing expansion of music-making and –listening throughout the age-range, and the person we appoint will be a pivotal figure in bringing this about. A strong commitment to extracurricular alongside curricular music is therefore indispensable.

Your application should consist of a completed form (downloadable from out website or the document section above), plus a brief supporting letter stating why you are interested in the post. In addition, your application must include the names, email addresses and telephone numbers of two referees, one of whom should be your current employer.

All posts are subject to checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB and ISA Registration), health clearance, receipt of satisfactory references and verification of your entitlement to work within the UK. Copies of teaching certificates or any further professional qualifications will need to be verified, at the point of undergoing a DBS check, if an offer of employment is made.

Please note that this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore all convictions, cautions and bind overs, including those regarded as spent must be declared. Providing false or misleading information could result in the application being disqualified or summary dismissal if in post.

References will be taken up prior to interview/offer. Referees should be able to comment on your professional suitability for the post you have applied for. One referee should be your current or most recent employer.

Information about the school

Dover Grammar School for Boys is a selective school with approximately 960 students on roll, of whom about 200 are in the Sixth Form. Girls are also admitted to the Sixth Form.

Our recent Ofsted Inspection (January 2025) report states that 'pupils thrive at this ambitious, inclusive school. The school motto ‘Fiat Lux’ (Let There Be Light) informs all that the school does.' We moved into new accommodation in July 2022 and our new building provides us with modern, bright, spacious teaching rooms, and has increased opportunities for students both inside and outside of the taught curriculum.

However, our success both in school – we recorded fantastic Progress 8 score in both 2023 and 2024 greater than +0.50 - and within the local community means that we are already looking to expand our site and develop opportunities further.

DGSB is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expect all staff to share in this commitment. Successful candidates will be required to undergo appropriate child protection screening including an enhanced DBS check. An ‘online presence’ check may be carried out before any appointment is confirmed. All appointments are subject to the receipt of satisfactory references.

Non-contributory access to the Benenden Healthcare Scheme is offered to successful candidates.
