Teaching Assistant to start as soon as possible

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who can support a child in Year 6 who has additional SEND needs and social, emotional and mental health support to help them excel in all areas of school life.  The post is initially for 27 hours and 5 minutes per week, working every day of the week during term time between 8.50am and 3.15pm with one hour break for lunch.  This contract is temporary and supported by High Needs funding which is reviewed annually.  There may be an opportunity for a permanent TA role from September 2022 for the right candidate.

As with other roles in the school, this post involves regular contact with children and staff and therefore the successful candidate needs to be able to relate well to children and adults alike.  A sense of humour is a MUST, as well as a ‘common-sense’ approach to the job and the ability to show initiative and adapt to any situation that may arise.  Ideally, in applying for this post and to join an ‘Outstanding’ team you will have: 

  • Good literacy and mathematical skills
  • Previous experience of working with children with emotional needs
  • Previous experience of precision teaching
  • Previous experience of working with children; awareness/experience of pre and post teaching
  • Some experience  of providing interventions to develop speech and language skills and knowledge in ‘Language through Colour’ would be beneficial
  • High standards of work ethic and self-motivation
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational  skills
  • The ability to form positive relationships with children and adults
  • High standards of personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards and team work
  • Any previous training in fizzy, sensory circuits, cued articulation; creating social stories would be advantageous
  • Confidence to attend and contribute in review meetings with parents and outside agencies
  • Skills to be able to create resources and develop strategies to support the child
  • Develop a multi-sensory approach to learning
  • Understanding of different SEND such as Autism, ADHD, ODD, ADD, Anxiety, Attachment

We are a Church of England Aided Junior school, situated in the heart of Whitstable. From September 2021 our school embarked on an expansion to admit 60 children into Year 3, growing to a two form entry school from September 2022 with a total of eight classes. Locally we are known as 'The Endowed' and we describe ourselves as an old school with a young heart.
