We are looking to recruit a caretaker/site manager to join our team at River Primary School. This is a vital role in our school. It is important to us that you will care for our school in a way that reflects the high standards of our school community. 

The likely shift pattern would be 7.00am – 10.30am and 2.30pm – 6.00pm 5 days a week (with a 5.30pm finish on Fridays). This will be finalised for the successful candidate.

Holiday entitlement must be taken during the school holidays in agreement with the Head of School/Executive Headteacher.

As the person responsible for security, caretaking and liaising with the cleaning contractor as well as general maintenance needs of the school and grounds, your duties will include:

  • Unlocking/locking the school
  • Taking pride in maintaining all areas of our school site both internally and externally to a very high standard
  • Undertaking health & safety inspections and keeping accurate health & safety recoerds – for example fire and water hygiene
  • Liaising with contractors e.g. caterers, cleaners
  • Arranging for annual inspections to be undertaken e.g. gas, asbestos
  • General property and site maintenance including redecoration, small repairs
  • Ensuring the outside areas are kept free from litter and leaves
  • Undertake cleaning duties of our office areas plus other areas as required
  • Replacing consumables e.g. lightbulbs and batteries
  • Maintaining stocks of consumables e.g. toilet rolls, paper towels
  • Porterage of goods delivered to the site
  • Working flexibly to support the school with events e.g. parents evenings, PTFA events. This will involve some pre- arranged evenings.
  • Attend training courses as required

The salary will be Kent Range 5 £19,335-£20,483 depending on skills and relevant experience

The successful candidate will be someone who is a good team player, who is flexible and prepared to use their initiative. They will have good interpersonal skills, being able to communicate effectively with all site users as the role demands. Previous experience in a school would be beneficial but training will provided. The successful candidate will be required to act as key holder, which also includes responding to 'call out' when the alarm sounds out of hours.
