Advert

We are seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join our team to provide 1:1 support for a pupil in our current Year 3 class to enable them to reach their full potential in all areas of school life.

Whilst experience of working in a primary school environment would be an advantage, it is more desirable that you are able to be highly flexible, have initiative, be skilled in de-escalation of situations and have a desire to forge positive relationships with children, staff and parents. You will need to have an understanding that some challenging behaviours require patience, distraction and most of all an attachment with the child, as well as believing that every child has their own interests and talents. A good standard of education is expected.

The hours are 9:30am to 12:30pm Monday to Friday term time only, and part of the role is to provide 30 minutes lunchtime supervision. Therefore, an ability to play, have fun, and actively supervise is essential.

This is a post that is linked to a child in receipt of High Needs Funding and is therefore temporary until the pupil leaves our setting or the funding ceases.

Please see the attached Job Description and Person Specification for more details.

Visits to the school are welcome and encouraged. If you wish to visit, please make an appointment through the school office.

Chilham St Mary's CE Primary School is committed to the safety and welfare of all of its children. Successful applicants will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS Check).

We reserve the right to close the vacancies early if suitable appointments are made before the closing date and we may begin the interview process early for suitable candidates.

Information about the school

Chilham St. Mary's is a friendly school with a real family atmosphere located in the heart of our historic village. Each child is valued as unique and filled with potential which we seek to nurture and encourage.

We are a small school with 4 classes of wonderful, hardworking children led by a dedicated team of education professionals. We are housed in five beautiful buildings on one site, two of which are Victorian and one dates back to the Tudor era.

We have strong and supportive links with the local community and the church, and we pride ourselves on our strong christian vision and values. The school plays a role in the village Remembrance Service in November and the lighting of the Christmas Tree in the Village Square each December.

We embrace small community rural living with visits to our local fire station and regular visits to the mobile library. We have regular forest school sessions enabling our children to access the curriculum in new and exciting ways. Our Year 6 children take part in a hugely enjoyable residential trip each year and also take part in the annual Cathedral Day organised by the Diocese of Canterbury.

Chilham St Mary’s has a vibrant P.T.A. that organise events and activities throughout the year. The school is also an associate member of the CARE collaboration family of schools.
