We are an Outstanding and unique secondary (11-18) SEMH special school in Kent, operating over 4 sites in Ashford and Folkestone, with each site running its own distinctive educational pathway. We are a highly regarded and successful school which has expanded its provision to meet the needs of our increasingly complex and vulnerable students.

Following an internal restructuring, we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and committed senior leader to work with the Principal to maintain the outstanding provision we have created, whilst seeking to develop innovative and exemplary practice within SEMH education.  The Vice Principal will be responsible for one of the main sites, Goldwyn Ashford.

The role will fall into two parts:-

Strategic Head of Centre - strategic management of the Goldwyn Ashford centre and line management of the centre leadership team.  With the Centre Manager, the Vice Principal will maintain an overview of the centre’s daily operation and carry out monitoring and reporting on all aspects of Quality of Education, Personal Development, and Behaviour and Attitudes for the Goldwyn Ashford Centre

Vice Principal – working with the Principal, other Vice Principal, Teaching and Learning Lead and Head of Sixth Form to strategically lead Goldwyn School in all aspects.  The Vice Principal will have specific responsibility for safeguarding, student behaviour & attitudes, strategically leading our approach for liaising with parents and other agencies and having a strategic overview of Health and Safety. Both Vice Principals will deputise for the principal in her absence.

The role of Vice Principal & Strategic Head of School will require:

  • An inclusive mindset with high aspirations for our students
  • Strong interpersonal skills where trust and respect are demonstrated to all
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders
  • Experience of leading a team of teachers and support staff
  • An understanding of the complex needs of SEMH students and those with a diagnosis of Autism
  • Positive leadership qualities that promote and support a team approach
  • A track record of outstanding classroom practice, with experience of delivering level 2 qualifications in a core or a range of subjects.
  • An understanding of the requirements for monitoring and quality assuring effective SEMH provision.

The post will start in April 2022 (Term 5) or sooner.  Interviews will be held during the first week of December.
