Foreland Fields School is seeking to recruit a Qualified Teacher who holds the Mandatory qualification for Teachers of the Deaf.  We would also consider applications from those nearing completion of this qualification.

We are looking for a qualified and a highly skilled practitioner, committed to delivering the very best learning and teaching experiences for our Deaf children and young people. The ability to work with other disciplines and to direct a small team of teaching assistants is required.

Foreland Fields School is highly committed to improving the life chances of our pupils and students and to the raising of standards throughout the school.  We place a firm emphasis upon the knowledge and skills needed for later life, working in partnership with parents to achieve this. 

The successful candidate will therefore have Qualified Teacher Status and be able to demonstrate:

  • A mandatory qualification to teach deaf and hearing-impaired children with experience of working in a resourced provision or other specialist setting.
  • BSL Level 2, qualification or above, desirable.
  • Have the drive and ambition to improve the life chances of Deaf children.
  • Be able to oversee the use of audiological equipment used by the pupils.
  • Experience of teaching pupils with special educational needs and ability to differentiate their approach for pupils with a range of needs
  • Ability to coordinate and direct the work of  classroom support staff, who are skilled and experienced at working with Deaf pupils and adults
  • A good understanding of current national statutory and curriculum requirements.
  • The capability to deliver consistently good or better lessons
  • A willingness to work with pupils and students across the Primary and Secondary phases.

Information about the school

Foreland Fields School is a Day Special School for pupils with Profound, Severe and Complex Needs (PSCN), many of whom also have Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

We provide for 200+ pupils aged 3-19 in five departments, Nursery, Infants, Juniors (KS2) Secondary (KS3) and KS4/6th Form. In addition, we have satellite classes at Garlinge Primary School, Hartsdown Academy and East Kent College.

Teaching Assistants working hours are from 8.30am until 3pm, apart from Thursdays where the finish time is 2.45pm on alternate weeks and 4.45pm on other weeks to accommodate essential training.
