Specialist Teaching and Language Service (STLS)

About the STLS:

The Specialist Teaching and Learning Service is based at Goldwyn School in Ashford. The Team is comprised of Specialist Teachers with specialisms in Early Years, Cognition and Learning, Social Emotional & Mental Health, Communication and Interaction, Hearing Impairment and Visual Impairment. The Specialist Teaching and Learning Service aims to work with SENDCos and other professionals to provide high quality advice, support, information, training and outreach to mainstream pre-school settings, schools and parents through the LIFT (Local Inclusion Forum Team) referral process.


We work alongside pre-school settings, schools and other professionals in providing effective and co-ordinated support. Our aim is that children and young people with Special Educational Needs can have their learning, physical, social and emotional needs met, so that they can be fully included at school and make good educational progress.

 

About the Role:

We are looking for a passionate, friendly, motivated and organised person to improve outcomes of SEND children in Primary and Secondary schools throughout the Ashford area. 

You will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, have a good sense of humour, be discrete and have the ability to work under pressure. The successful candidates will be able to work well in a team, be flexible, and have an organised approach to their work. The ability to travel to meet the requirements of the role is essential - own car is essential. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To deliver clear sets of bespoke objectives and targeted outcomes for individual cases through collaborative working with STLS Teachers and District Lead.
  • To participate in and foster the learning experiences provided for students by encouraging appropriate social behaviour and catering for their general welfare. 

  • To model specific interventions and approaches to supporting high needs students with the overall aim of upskilling mainstream staff and embedding them in school practice.
  • Build strong working relationships with our partners coaching and offering supervision support to school staff working with complex students.
  • Act as a champion for vulnerable children enabling them to overcome barriers, building emotional resilience and equipping them with communication skills.

 

Salary: This post is offered on a salary of Kent Range 6 (£20,997 - £22,918) pro rata  (actual £17,084.62 per annum) and is for 35 hours per week 39 weeks per year (term time only plus 5 staff development days).

Goldwyn is an outstanding and unique secondary (11-18) SEMH special school in Kent, operating over 4 sites in Ashford and Folkestone, with each site running its own distinctive educational pathway.

We are a highly regarded and successful school which has expanded its provision to meet the needs of our increasingly complex and vulnerable students.

Goldwyn School is a KCC Foundation Special School for children and young people with an EHCP for SEMH needs from age 11 to 18. Students who are admitted to the school have complex and wide ranging difficulties and come from a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds and a wide geographical area.
