Folkestone Academy is looking to recruit an exceptional Lead Drama teacher for January 2022 or early start if possible. We also have a number of leadership opportunities available, depending on the candidate. We welcome applications from expert practitioners who are committed to our vision to foster an environment where students value their education, enjoy their learning and feel inspired to develop their true passions. This post would also be suitable for an NQT who would like to develop in the role. We believe that a knowledge-led curriculum delivered by research-engaged, dedicated practitioners is the catalyst necessary to achieve this purpose. Essential to this purpose is our shared commitment to our values. We offer traditional academic subjects alongside creative arts, sports and a vibrant extra-curricular. We want our pupils to find their talents and be the best they can be. This role provides an exciting opportunity to develop a dynamic drama department from the ground up and become pivotal in a drive to make performing arts central to academy life.

The ideal candidates will...

  • be a committed advocate of the performing arts with exceptional subject knowledge
  • be dedicated to improving pupil progress and raising attainment
  • value our warm-strict environment, embed routines and support the well-being of our pupils with SEND
  • engage with research-informed teaching practice
  • believe that a knowledge-rich curriculum levels the playing field for all pupils
  • be keen to develop extra curricular opportunities in performance and deliver a programme of dramatic performances throughout the year

In return, we can offer...

  • fabulous pupils who work hard and who want to learn
  • a commitment to placing creative and performing arts at the heart of academy life
  • a dedicated team of teachers and associate staff, who are always willing to go above and beyond to support our pupils, and one another
  • personalised coaching and CPD programmes alongside an investment in your career and development through financing Masters qualifications, training courses, Teach Meets and conferences as requested
  • manageable workload through sensible and efficient policies, such as whole-class feedback, centralised detentions, and biannual data drops, as well as dedicated time for collaborative planning
  • Quality Assurance cycles which are genuinely developmental for all colleagues
  • a Trust which takes pupil and faculty welfare and intellectual development seriously
  • supportive governors and a dedicated faculty team who are continually willing to learn
