We are looking for 3 enthusiastic, hardworking 1:1 Learning Support Assistants (LSA) , preferably with experience, who will be working with children who have a range of special educational needs including emotional and behavioural difficulties, ASD tendencies and communication and language needs. The children are in Years R, and Year 4. The role will involve working primarily with the named child and the successful candidates will be involved in working closely alongside the class teacher and SENCO to deliver appropriate support.

They will need to be passionate about working with children with Special Educational Needs, and can help us make a positive impact on our children’s’ lives. The successful applicant must have recent experience of working with children in a school setting providing in-class support and working with individual children with identified needs.   In addition they must have the initiative to follow and implement personalised education and health plans with the child in order to help them reach their full potential. They will need to have high standards of work ethic in terms of motivation, personal presentation, punctuality, professional standards, good communication and team work. A knowledge and understanding of Phonics is desirable and a high standard of Literacy and Numeracy are required.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Ideally have some knowledge or experience working with children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties as well as ASD tendencies and SEND.
  • Have the energy and enthusiasm to provide personalised learning experiences to children with SEND.
  • Have a calm, patient and encouraging manner, with an ability to make learning fun.
  • An ability to be self-motivated and manage time effectively in order to maximise children’s learning time.
  • Flexible and willing to support the child in a variety of situations, possibly including on the playground at lunch time.
  • Have an understanding of how children learn and the complexities of this process.
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
  • Is able to record interventions and outcomes to measure progress.

It is essential that the applicant has good literacy/numeracy skills, should preferably hold a teaching assistant qualification and feels confident to teach literacy/numeracy at Year 6 level.

Please note that this position is a Temporary Contract whilst the child is at Sholden Primary School and receiving high needs funding.
