Help transform lives by joining our team.

It's not easy, and it's not for everyone. But as a Kitchen Assistant, the rewards can be so much bigger than the challenges. You really will make a positive difference to people’s lives.

You’ll be joining our team, both locally and nationally and we’ll support you every step of the way.

We need you to be resilient, supportive and sensitive towards the needs of autistic people. Being a Kitchen Assistant takes bravery, patience and commitment. But working with autistic people gives so much more in return.

You may have a personal connection, a desire to work with or real-life experiences working with autistic people. You might not have lots of experience yet, but if you share our values and are willing to make a difference to the lives of autistic people, we’d love to hear from you.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for an experienced and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Helen Allison school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To prepare and deliver meals and assist in the kitchen as required
  • To carry out all cleaning duties as required

We offer a fantastic one-year induction programme, continuing learning and development opportunities and the support you need to develop a career in social care. Along with a host of benefits – from shopping discounts to flexible working and a competitive pension scheme.

Hours of work

You will work 25 hours a week, 9.30am to 2.30pm Monday to Friday, term time only.

Information about the school

The National Autistic Society is the UK’s leading charity for autistic people. Since 1962, we’ve been transforming lives, changing attitudes and helping to create a society that works for autistic adults and children.

We transform lives by providing support, guidance and practical advice for the 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, as well as their three million family members and carers. Autistic people turn to us at key moments or challenging times in their lives, be it getting a diagnosis, going to school or finding work.

We change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and the difficulties many autistic people face. We also work closely with businesses, local authorities and government to help them provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws.

We have come a long way but it is not good enough. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for people on the spectrum. With your help, we can make it happen.
