Come and  join our team at Thurnham C of E Infant School. 

A caring and proactive Learning Support Assistant is required to work with children with a range of needs both in and out of the classroom.

This role will also involve some 1:1 support.

Please note, the duration of the employment will only be for the period the child is at the school. The post is to start as soon as possible Autumn 2021.

An understanding of Speech and Language development, Autism and the  six principles of Nurture Provision would be an advantage but not essential.

 Ideally, in applying for this post you will: 

  • Have a good understanding of children's needs, both pastorally and educationally
  • Have an understanding/experience of working with children with attachment needs.
  • Understand how to use and complete a Boxall Profile
  • Be able to remain calm under pressure
  • Have good levels of literacy and numeracy
  • Have excellent communication skills
  • Be able to adapt their style to meet the needs of the children as they present at the time- with an awareness of de-escalation and relaxation techniques
  • Have experience of supporting children in a learning environment
  • Be able to liaise with the class teacher, providing feedback and keeping records of progress and behaviour as required
  • Prepare resources and undertake administrative tasks as required
  • Work as part of the team and have a sense of humour

The responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting individual  pupils and small groups of pupils and address their specific needs - as directed by the class teacher and/or SENCO
  • Working in collaboration with the class teacher to set personalised targets
  • Delivery of interventions, as directed by the class teacher
  • Supervision of pupils at break times

Information about the school

We are an outstanding Infant School, with a reputation for very high standards of achievement, pastoral care, outreach work, teaching and learning. The school roll is currently 270 pupils spread over nine classes (three classes per year group) with a Teaching Assistant attached to each class.
