Advert

The school is seeking to appoint a well-qualified Teacher of Physics to A level for January 2022.

Physics is a popular subject at the school with approximately 150 students from our mixed sixth form currently studying Physics. All of our boys in KS4 study Physics as part of their triple award AQA GCSE qualification and we teach a bespoke combined science course at KS3 in Years 7 and 8. The successful candidate will be rewarded by working in a department where all unnecessary workload is stripped away and the emphasis is placed firmly on teaching and learning. All lessons take place in dedicated laboratories and are supported by a subject dedicated Physics technician. In short, we look to free our teachers so they can teach the very best lessons in their own style. We believe in a collegiate approach to the department and you will be fully supported by the Head of Physics and Director of Science.

We have a dedicated research session on our timetable where students work with technology from CERN, work on genetic engineering with staff from the University of Kent and learn novel chemical techniques as part of the chemistry society. Students from the school often choose scientific research as the subject of their Extended Project Qualification, take part in Olympiads and even publish journal articles. This is an opportunity to work in a department giving you the freedom to conduct genuine scientific research in an area of your own interest.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and passionate subject specialist who can deliver the curriculum to a high level. For candidates who are looking to develop their career a TLR may also be available for taking responsibility for the super-curricular aspects of Physics, including running Olympiads for students across the year groups, supervising after school Astronomy sessions during the winter months in the school observatory and re-starting our annual trip to CERN in Switzerland as travel restrictions lift. We welcome applications from NQTs looking for an exciting and supportive school to start their career or experienced colleagues looking to develop their ownership and responsibilities. We have the scope to tailor the role to all experience levels and, for candidates who can bring additional school-wide expertise, a TLR may be available for responsibilities elsewhere in the school. Further details of the school are available on the school’s website www.thelangton.org.uk
