Advert

One of our teachers begins a maternity leave in September. We are fortunate to have a Higher Level Teaching Assistant who is completing her training to gain Qualified Teaching Status. She will teach the class during the maternity leave. We then have an experienced TA in Year R who is going to step up to take on the vacant HLTA role for the year. This leaves us with a need to recruit a TA to our Reception Class.

The position is a maternity contract because when the teacher returns, everyone resumes their current roles. But the teacher intends to take the whole of the academic year as her maternity leave and hence this position is expected to run for the full year. We cannot promise, but if you are appointed and prove yourself to be an asset to the school, we would look at whether we had the capacity to continue to employ you permanently after 2022. This would depend on the state of the school finances.

We would like to recruit someone with experience of working with children of around this age. The position may suit someone who currently works in a nursery and wishes to move into a school based position. We are very open to considering applications from both male and female applicants, as primary schools never have sufficient numbers of male staff.

Ideally we need someone with experience teaching phonics, and of the EYFS curriculum. Year R is the most vital in the primary school. It is imperative that our children gain a sound understanding of phonics and number, as well as simply developing a love of coming to school and of learning. We assess our Year R children early in term 1, and act on the results to address any issues which are identified, particularly in speech and language. Don't apply for this role if you imagine  Year R to be an easy option. This is where we work hardest to build the foundation for a successful education.

Year R is taught by one of our Assistant Headteachers. She is a lovely, welcoming person, as well as being a superb teacher. You would learn a great deal from working alongside her. We also have a child joining Year R who has an EHCP. We are currently recruiting a TA to support her 1:1. Thus you would be in a team of 3 people in the class of 26 children.

You would begin work at 8.15am, 15 minutes before the children come into school. You have an hour lunch break and a 15 minute morning break. You would finish at 3pm, as school ends. The pay is on Kent Range 3 and for these hours, currently equates to £11,236 (full time equivalent is £18,039) with a pay rise due in September.

Please contact us if you wish to discuss the role informally to find out more details. I then encourage you to visit the school for a tour. It is a wonderful place.

St Peter’s Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children and expects all staff to share this commitment. All appointments will be subject to safer recruitment procedures. Enhanced DBS checks are required for this post.

Information about the school

St Peter's is a small, delightful village primary school situated in the medieval village of Aylesford, housed in a Victorian building and the old vicarage, opposite the village church. We take pride in our caring and supportive attitude to everyone at the school and aim to ensure that the continued professional development of all staff is a priority.

We currently have 202 children in seven classes. Our PAN has recently been increased to 30. We expect to have a roll of 210 within the next 3 years.

Our ethos is that we aim to develop the child as a whole. We are not focused on SATs league tables or achieving a judgement of Outstanding from Ofsted. We want to deliver to our pupils the type of rounded education that we would wish for our own children. This means delivering the widest and richest curriculum possible. We aim to provide our children with an education which prepares them for the adult life ahead of them.

Children learn a modern foreign language from Year R and continue to do so throughout their years here. Every Thursday is a Creative Day, when we only teach art, music, MFL, computing and PE. Education is not about focusing your efforts on achieving the highest possible SATs grades; real education is about providing our children with the best possible teaching and the widest possible curriculum.

We want our children to be both supported, and to be shown that it is quite alright to take a chance and to fail. They must learn that being taken out of their comfort zone is exciting and not frightening. We are preparing our children for life, not a test. But if we do so professionally, with high quality teaching, then they will succeed in tests as best as they are able, as well as being fully prepared for the life which awaits them.

We have a small team of dedicated staff who love their school and work extremely hard to ensure that our children receive the best possible education. We support each other and appreciate each other's strengths. This is a friendly and supportive environment and we welcome like minded individuals who wish to join us.
