We are looking to recruit an inspiring full-time (term-time) EYFS Teaching Assistant/Early Years Practitioner to join our Nursery team.

We are looking for experienced practitioners who have high expectations for all children and believe in teaching and delivering a stimulating and creative curriculum.

  • A commitment to sharing responsibility for raising standards and improving challenge within the school
  • Effectively work- independently, as part of a team and with the wider community
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment, energy and enthusiasm
  • Flexibility in duties and approaches
  • Have high expectations and enjoy being a member of a team.
  • NVQ3 qualification in Early Years Care and Education (or equivalent) is essential.
  • Be able to work in partnership with parents and the wider community
  • Can significantly contribute to the creation of a stimulating learning environment
  • Have a secure knowledge and understanding of early development and learning through play.
  • Have a minimum of 6 months experience of working in a nursery.

In 2024, Ofsted graded St John's as a good school in all areas.

The school, based in the heart of Canterbury, is a larger than average primary school, with two classes in each of Years 1 to 6. The school has provision for Early Years Foundation Stage children, with a nursery and two reception classes. In addition to our teaching team, we have a supportive pastoral team including a Head of Inclusion and Welfare, Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Personal Development, SENDCo, EAL Specialist and a FLO. The school is a Church of England voluntary controlled school.
