To cover Folkestone/Hythe, Ashford & Tunbridge Wells (school base to be agreed)

This is a unique opportunity to join an enthusiastic, and collaborative County team working to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people (CYP)with physical disabilities and complex medical needs in educational settings through full inclusion and access to learning.  You will advise and support early years settings and mainstream colleagues (SENDCos, Class Teachers and TA’s) on strategies and interventions which enable full physical and curriculum access.  You will be involved in multi-agency planning to ensure the best possible outcomes for CYP with physical disabilities and/or complex medical needs.

You will have Qualified Teacher Status. Subject specialism is unimportant but recent experience of successful teaching in UK mainstream schools is essential along with exemplary classroom practice including excellent interpersonal and organisational skillsExperience of working with physically disabled children and young people is highly desirable.  You must be able to travel across Kent to meet the requirements of the role.

Information about the school

The STLS Sensory Service is comprised of teachers with the Mandatory Qualification for sensory impairment and other sensory support professionals. They provide services in homes, preschools and schools across Kent and operate from 14 different venues.

The STLS Sensory Service supports children and young people with: * Hearing impairment * Visual impairment * Deafblindness (Multi-Sensory Impairment)

What does the STLS Sensory Service provide?

For children and young people with a sensory impairment: * We support young children’s development, communication and exploration through specialist sessions with preschool children and their families in the home. * We build the confidence and capacity of educational settings, schools and colleges to meet sensory needs through information sharing, signposting and training. * We work to support access to the learning environment, curriculum, communication and information through direct work in preschools and schools including the provision of specialist teaching and equipment. * We promote independence, resilience and well-being through close liaison with children and young people, their families, health professionals and the commissioning of support for mobility training and specialist activities
