We have an opportunity for a dynamic, enthusiastic and hardworking Assistant Head to join our friendly, positive and forward-looking team from September 2021, as we continue our journey towards excellence and being the very best we can be for our children and young people.

The successful candidate will play an integral part in the Leadership Team, working with and supporting the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher’s vision by leading, managing, supporting and developing pupils, staff and our school community.  The successful candidate will be expected to take on a whole school lead role for curriculum and pupil progress.

 An ideal candidate will:-

  • be a professional who can demonstrate a strong commitment to inclusive principles, support our ethos of providing a safe and positive environment for all our children and young people, enabling them to reach their full potential and develop their skills for life and independence
  • have excellent knowledge, expertise and skills of working with children and young people with SEND
  • be an excellent teacher and role model with a proven track record of supporting children’s progress
  • have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to adapt to different situations
  • have strong leadership experience with the confidence and ability to hold others to account
  • have the ability to build and develop excellent working relationships with staff, pupils, parents/carers, governors and other professionals
  • have personal drive, resilience and be able to demonstrate enthusiasm and a positive attitude

Information about the school

Oakley School is the Tunbridge Wells District Special School for day pupils, aged from 3 to 19 years, with a specialist Observation and Assessment Nursery for 3-5 years. All our children and young people have profound, severe/complex needs and communication and learning difficulties.

We have a site in Tonbridge which caters for our Phase 4 (16+) students and a site in Tunbridge Wells which caters for children and young people from the age of 3 to 16. We also have a satellite provision at Skinners' Kent Primary School. Our one-day Section 8 OFSTED inspection in March 2019 reaffirmed us as 'Good'. We aspire to be outstanding in all that we do.
