Would you like the opportunity to work at an innovative Primary school?  Can you embrace change, strive for excellence and still keep children at the heart of all you do?  Situated metres from the beach, we are at the heart of the local community. Palm Bay has a strong, creative curriculum, well-behaved children and a commitment to staff wellbeing and development.  We are seeking an enthusiastic teacher, keen to learn and develop their practice, to join our friendly team.

We currently have a vacancy for a KS1/2 Class Teacher on a 1 year fixed term contract.  You will have experience of teaching children through a high-quality learning environment, where outdoor learning is promoted.  You will have high expectations for all pupils and will have experience of effectively teaching early reading, writing and maths in an engaging and rigorous way. NQT's are welcome to apply.

Palm Bay is a popular, over-subscribed two form entry Primary school which Ofsted has rated ‘good’ in all areas (2018).  We make the most of our stunning location and grounds, offering beach and forest school opportunities to all our pupils. The leadership team are dedicated to developing a growth-mindset culture and raising aspirations for all.  We will offer you a fantastic programme of CPD and individual coaching, in a supportive culture with motivated children who are keen to learn.

If you would like to visit the school for a tour and to meet the Headteacher, this may be possible to arrange, as long as you are happy to comply with social distancing guidelines.  Please contact the Headteacher directly if you would like to arrange a visit:  lizziewilliams@palmbay.uk

Importantly, we are looking for a teacher who can demonstrate commitment to our school, children and community.  The coming months and the next academic year will be challenging for all schools as we navigate new territory and support one another – pupils and adult alike – to recover from the impact of the pandemic.  Central to this, will be the empathy, compassion and teamwork of every member of staff at Palm Bay.  If you have these qualities and are keen to join a kind, supportive and hardworking team, then please apply.

The closing date is Monday 10th May 2021 and successful candidates will be invited to an interview during that week, with the Headteacher and another member of SLT.  Details of additional interview tasks will be shared with candidates once shortlisted.

Information about the school

Information about the school:

At Palm Bay, we have very high expectations and standards of teaching, learning and behaviour as well as a clean, tidy, inspiring environment in which to learn and work.

We offer a broad and rounded curriculum, with plenty of opportunities for outdoor learning in our beautiful grounds and nearby beach. As an ‘Eco School’ we seek to promote care and responsibility for the environment and we have an active Eco Council. Our commitment to sports and the creative subjects is strong and we have a well-equipped music room, a specialist music teacher and a sports coach. Reading and oracy lie at the heart of our curriculum; we are committed to developing a love of reading in all children through ‘Reading for Pleasure’ and our pupils enjoy a spacious and well-stocked library.

Over the past few years, we have been developing our curriculum. The creative arts continue to remain a priority: we have four artists-in-residence who are based in our on-site studio space, close links with the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery and have gained the Gold Artsmark award. Committed to raising the aspirations and life-chances of the children we serve, we have an exciting personal development programme, which incorporates politics, careers-related learning and personal development, helping our pupils to become caring, active members of their community.

Testimonial from a current teacher:

“Palm Bay Primary School offers a welcoming and friendly community culture. Our school values of creativity, aspiration, resilience, thirst for learning, kindness and community are not only shown by the children, but by every member of staff too.

I completed my NQT year in July 2020 and have since taken on the role of staff governor and outdoor learning lead after training as a Forest School Leader. As an NQT I had weekly meetings with my mentor, supportive lesson observation feedback and I was always welcome to observe teaching practices in other classrooms. This support has continued into my second year of teaching at Palm Bay, and it is part of the ethos of our school. All staff are continually supported with their professional development through weekly CPD meetings, coaching and collaboration with other members of the team. The senior team involve the staff in key decisions and our ideas and suggestions are valued.

Pupil and staff wellbeing is also a key focus for Palm Bay. We recognise the importance of promoting positive wellbeing and mental health and we have a dedicated wellbeing team”.
